Remake - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

1.
·      The original was made in 1974 and was made and shot in the USA, because of the era it was made in there may have not been a film like this before so it would have appeared terrifying to the audience.
·      The remake was made in 2003 and was also made and shot in the USA, the remake had the same story line to the original but with the slight differences due to era change and gender change of the person they pick up, also in the scene where they pick up the girl they changed the weapon from a knife to a gun which may seem more threatening in the era it was made.
·      There are certain things in the film that have changed as I have mentioned about the gender and weapon change to suit an audience that are interested in the film of this era. The remake from 2003 is a lot more jumpy I feel than the original as the original is about tell the spin chilling story whilst being generally disturbing were as the remake takes more to the jump and scare the audience as much as they can because this is what the audience wanted at the time.
2.
·      The budget for the original was $83,532, which in today’s money is around about $395,711 with an inflation rate of 373% and it made a gross of $30,859,000, which now would be $146,186,531.
·      The remake had a budget of $9,200,000, which in 10 years has changed to around about $11,000,000. The gross for the remake was $107 million worldwide.
·      If they had been produced and sold in todays age with money the way it is then the original would have done a lot better money wise but as it was set towards a different target audience it may have not been so successful where as the remake did well and made lots of money about 10 years ago.
3.
·      The remake could have been put through production quicker as there were a lot of slasher/physco killer films out in 2001-2002, which meant that’s what the audiences were looking for at the timeit was being put through the pre production stage.

  3. The point that you have made about the era and gender change is interesting and a good point to talk about as films reboots and remakes change because of a modern audience and their expectations. As well as this the budget information that you have researched is good because of the inflation points.
