Viral Advert Storyboard

Soundtrack for FMP grade boosting

Summarise the ways you might be asked to devise soundtrack:

- who would work it out with you and what different input would they have?
the editors, directors and the sound technicians, the reason it would be these people because they would want to know what was being recorded, but some would want it in different ways so some would have an over ruling decision which would probably be the director.

- who else would be involved?
the sound team would also be involved as they would be working along side recording and editing the sound.

- Explain terms such as 'spotting' and 'picture lock'.

Paramount Ident - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVUPUywkOmE

I really like the look of the paramount ident because the colours used are not to in you face. Also the way the different parts of the ident move as well makes it more interesting and gives me the idea i want to do something along the lines of how the stars move, they move on the z axis giving the viewer the illusion of a 3D effect, also the way that you do this is by making the object a 3d layer by ticking the 3d box.

Universal Ident - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7C93lxxS0A&list=PLAFDBC5699D4B5A1C

Like the paramount ident some elements move on the z axis, the elements that move on the z axis are the earth and the universal text moving around the earth. I don't think i will use this type of movement as it doesn't move quick enough away from the camera and it takes to long, in comparison for what i want to do.

Dreamworks Ident - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLfqiKYgdXM

At the end of the ident the dream works title moves towards the screen on the z axis, with the way it moves I would probably make it go the other way away front he screen so it looks like it has come rushing past the viewer.

Similar Fonts

Dreamworks Font - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLfqiKYgdXM

The dreamworks font is bold and has sharp edges, this draws the viewer in by making them concentrate on the text as they have to look at all the edges and sharp corners. it is quite a scary font but is eased of by the colours used, the colours attract a younger audience as well as a mature audience.

Universal Font - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7C93lxxS0A&list=PLAFDBC5699D4B5A1C

The font used for universal is a massive size and super bold type of font which draws all the attention to it, almost leaving a stamp in your mind of the company name and logo. this is a good way to make people remember the brand. I think i will make my ident bold and stand out whether it be through font or colour.

Columbia Pictures Font - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8rSqa7N2Dw

With the columbia pictures font it is really bold and bright with it being a little bit curved but still has some sharp edges which gives it a really professional look and gets the attention of the viewer.

Similar Colours

MGM colours - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PKpny46Q-U

The colours used in the MGM ident are really clever because all though there are only really two colours black and gold they are really effective, i think for my ident i will use maybe just two or three colours as it will be simple but can also be really effective just like the MGM ident.

1990 Disney colours - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmY4it0gS2s

with this disney ident it only uses three colours like the MGM ident, it is simple but very effective the blue and the white contrast each other really making the text stand out from the blue, but i think with my ident i will make the background a white colour and the text contrast it maybe a black or dark green colour.

Pixar colours - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWpglJL4KZk

with the background being light and the letters being dark i have decided this is what i am going to do for my ident, the  light and shadow in the ident adds 2 extra colours tot he ident which draws your attention the what the lamp is doing which adds another important thing to remember and leaves it stamped in your mind.

Design 1

With the first element of the wind, I would pre-comp each individual strand of wind a make them move by moving keyframe on position and scale, also each strand is made up of different shapes so i can have full adjustability with each one. Once I have created about 7 strands of wind i will put them all in the same composition and lengthen them out to last 10 seconds.
With the tree in place I will place a camera and make all the layers 3D layers which give the illusion of it being real 3D, this will also allow me to make my composition canvas as big as I need it. The camera will be zoomed in on the wind strands then it will zoom out from them, i will do this by changing the wind strands scale t make them smaller looking like the camera zooms out. as it approaches the tree the camera will zoom out fully showing the whole logo and the wind will fly out to the right.

Design 2

This is the final design I used for my ident because i thought it was the most professional looking.
First it starts with each tree coming in individually, I did this by changing the position and scale of each tree at a different time. Once they have fallen into place the text starts to roll in by changing the same parts of position and scale as the trees. then a flash of light comes from behind the trees I did this by changing the keyframes on scale and opacity to get the desired effect.

Design 3

With this design i would start by just filming walking through a house then stop at a laptop on a coffee table and a tv on the wall in the kitchen then the 1st person character looks at his phone .
with all the elements that the character looks at I will motion track parts of different films i have made and then on the phone at the end it will have the forest light pictures logo. so i will ultimately matte the tv and computer screens and repave them.

These are my three ideas for my ident i have decided to go with design 2 as my final ident idea.

Colour and font choice for each design

Design 1

the colours used in my first ident design would be just a white background so everything would contrast it,t he wind strands would be a dark to mid blue, the tree would be a dark brown colour along with the text and everything else that comes into the logo.
for this design i would have used the font courier so it would give it a vintage feel to it.
once i have made the ident i would export it, then put it into final cut pro X and put a vintage filter on it.

Design 2

the second design i came up with would be completely white back ground with everything else being black apart from the flash to reveal the boy which would be a yellow flash but very faint.
the font used on the ident would be Didot as this is the font used for the logo of forest light pictures.

Design 3

the colours used in my last ident design would just be natural colours of an actual home as it would be real footage.
the font used on the ident would be Didot as this is the font used for the logo of forest light pictures.

Career Plan

JOB ROLE: DIRECTOR

My dream job would to become a director of film, and have my films released in cinema.
I have started my journey to my dream job by doing a level 3 course in Film and Television.
I will complete course this week hopefully leaving with a DDM which is leading me to my next step in my journey.

My next step is to progress from college and go to university, i have applied for 5 universities in total hearing back from all of them, decided that ports, mouth university was the best option for me. the grades i need for this university are DMM and i am hopefully i will leave with a DDM so aim well within the grade boundaries.

After university i hope to start in a company from the bottom, so my job would probably be a runner and work my way in the industry, i will move up in the company by showing flair and pushing my self to my limits and learning new skills from my older more experienced peers.

I may have to do a few courses on the way. also if i cant get a job in the industry i may go back to university and get a masters degree in film.

After Effects Cinema Text

In this lesson of after effects we learnt how to make cinema feel text. the first step was to add text and then centre it in the composition. once this had been done I chose the font style, size and colour. then changed the position and scale settings and by using keyframes, to make it look like it comes from the bottom of the screen and comes forward too. But as it comes up it slightly changed size where after effects has made an error with the keyframes, so i clicked on both of them and clicked keyframe interpolation and then changed the spatial interpolation to linear so it fixes the problem completely. Once this was done just duplicate the layer and change the text to the next part and makes all the text come and go to the centre of the screen.

After Effects Basic animation

In this lesson of after effects AdobeBridge was introduced. Adobe Bridge can be used to organise and locate different effects and presets. To use adobe bridge you can double click the app at the bottom of the screen, or you can then choose a file and click browse in bridge, a message then appears on the screen where you will click yes so you can view any content from AE.
We where told to have a look around. We learnt how to do the drop shadow effect. This effect is done by clicking the clip you want from the compost, then choose 'chose effect', 'perspective', 'Drop shadow' what this effect does is it gives the title in the sequence a shadow is added around it to make it look bold and stand out more. After this in the effects tab we where told to use colour emboss on the word what this does is sharpens the edges of the object without losing the original colours.
With adding effects to text you need to place the timeline cursor in the right place and this is were the effect will start.

After Effects Motion Graphics

In this lesson of after effects we had to be able to do use the pin tool. The sequence that we created was of a man walking and then slipping on a banana, it looks and sounds difficult to do but its not. Firstly we added the background onto the timeline, once this is in we put the banana in and scaled it down to a suitable size of around about 15-20% so it looks normal. Then changed the position by clicking P which brings up the position section, we now move it so it is on the road where the man can walk and trip on it. Finally we have to put the man in the composition and put the scale down to the same as the banana so it looks all one size.
Now we have to create the puppet effect, first select the puppet tool, then select the main limbs of the man. These pins will then appear in the timeline panel, rename the individual parts of the mans body so you know which is which.
Now make the mans limbs move as if it was an actual man moving so it needs his, arms to move, head bob a little and legs to move in time. Now we need to overlap the The different limbs, so click the overlap tool and the areas that need to be in front you need to click them so the form in front of the others.

The Shadowing Focus group

I participated in a focus group in a lesson between  me and two others. This gave me the chance to get a small amount of feedback and opinion on the idea. I pitched my short movie idea and I got positive feedback. This has got me and my group excited to start filming and editing our idea.

48 hour film project Complete

We finished editing our project which we was pleased with but we was unable to export it. We found this was due to one of the handy cams we used and was our own fault for not doing test runs with the camera. But we have learned from this for next time but we are pleased with how our project looks. Our team was me, Reggie, Shaun and Ellis who all pitched in with directing, ideas, camera work and editing. We found that our pre production work needs more motivation to do it as it will help us with our work in the long run. We screened our project to the class and due to rendering problems some of the soundtrack and voice overs had been deleted so some scenes did not make much sense. But we got positive feedback for our Parody Documentary and was told camera work throughout was well planned and shot well. This has been good practise for my Single Camera Drama.

48 hour film project Filming 2

16/09/13
In our morning session we went out filming for 3 hours were we did our previous interview and changed the character profile around. We decided to do this as a more rude boy kind of character fit better for our audience and made the scene more funny for the audience. In the afternoon we spent a further 2 hours editing. During this editing we fit in a soundtrack to our intro to the programme, and also added new footage and a soft voice for a voice over to give the project a better look and feel of a documentary.

16/48 hours

48 hour film project Filming 1

11/09/13
During lunch breaks we grabbed a handheld camera and spent 3 hours filming our project. We got over half the footage we needed and all our interviews with the students done. In the afternoon we grouped all our footage and began editing and putting it all into sequence. We did not have any problems when filming, it all went through in a few goes of trying. When editing we got all our shots into place where we wanted them but did not make time to cut the shots how we wanted them so we left that for another time.

11/48 hours

48 hour film project pre production

09/09/13
Our group discussed a project idea we decided on a inbetweeners type programme but soon changed this to a new idea of a comedy sketch of student life at college. We developed a draft script as the idea will be improvised to make it feel real. And finished up the rest of the ore production in the afternoon.

5 hours

Diary entry Jel

October 8th filming began for Jel the musical. The Opening scene for Jel was shot and edited in the same day. The following day more filming was shot. Dialogue scenes where shot and edited. These scenes came up with sound difficulties and were reshot two weeks later on 22nd of October. Filming was then delayed due to equipment issues and was carried on, on November the 7th, The first musical scene was filmed at a home location. Shooting appeared difficult but was eventually done to a good standard, although when edited we found the microphone was not tested properly and singing and dialogue was not picked up well and so we decided to reshoot which eventually was done mid November.
On Monday the 25th of November our lead female role dropped out causing massive issue in filming as her part will now have to be either recasted or the entire production will have to go back into pre production and changed for the script to work without the role. After a week of trying to replace the lead female role we found we couldnt get her replaced in time for the project to be completed.
On Monday the 2nd of December the entire Jel the musical project was dropped and cancelled and the team got straight to work on a new project called 'The Shadowing'

After Effects Shape Layers

In this lesson we learned about shape layers and how they can be used to create dynamic and interesting backgrounds for videos, in this lesson we created one for a fake show called DJ Quad Master. There is an advantage of using shape layers instead of solid layers, it is that you can use the fill option to create a linear or radial gradient. After effects has 5 shape tools to use: Rectangle, Rounded rectangle, ellipse, polygon and a star. When you draw a shape on you composition, after effects adds the shape as a separate layer. You can change the fill colour thats if you want one and the stroke if you want one, also modify its path and apply animation presets.

To complete the task I first i selected the rectangle tool and drew a rectangle filling the whole screen.
after this i clicked fill on the gradient editor, choosing white and blue to get the background a white centre into blue background. Then create the polygon with a roundness of -500% and the outer radius to 150 creating a dynamic shape. i made more than one of these to add to the background and did the same with the other shapes.

After Effects 3D titles

To create the 3D title like in the video attached motion tracking is need just like wight the set extension. First of all we import the files and pre comp them by dragging them to the composition button. make sure that the workspace being used is motion tracking so the side menu shows for you to start tracking the floor. once you have the right workspace click track motion when you are selected on the composition, once you have click it the clip will be analysed by after effects then you can add the text in and click the 3D button to make it look more realistic.

After Effects Set Extensions

In this lesson we were going to learn set extension, so first we had to drag the clip to new composition. then set the motion tracking to track rotation. then select points that are significant to how the camera moves i.e. a leaf or a rock on the floor, then analyse the composition so it tracks until the point is about to exit the view port, once this is at the point we had created to null object naming each one first and second, then track them to get even more points so it flows a lot better. now we selected track motion again to it can analyse the new objects to motion track, once this has done parent the two null objects.

After this add the photoshopped castle image and place it where you want it to finish at the end of the timeline. then once this is done you can parent it to a null object to get it to stay in the same place.

Viral Advert Evaluation

For my viral advert I decided to create a short minute long trailer for my FMP 'Guardian'. The reason I created it was so that i can show the story and actual footage from the film to the viewers. The information given in my Viral advert is a quick glance at the storyline, who stars in my film and who it is directed by. We had to include visual effects in out viral advert so i decided to do the editing in after effects and Cinema 4d.

The first element of motion graphics that appear in my viral advert is in the first shot, I had colour corrected it in after effects. The reason I wanted to colour correct the first clip was to get a more orange/red feel, this added the feeling of hope to the main character Alex looking up at his guardian.
The first step was for me to put the clip into After effects by importing it and then Pre comping it, this is done by dragging the clip to the new composition button. Once i had done this in the effects search bar I typed in curves, and then dragged it onto my clip. Then this menu shows up down the side bar where the project tab was.

Once this has appeared I clicked three times on each quarter of the diagonal line then arranged them like this, to get the desired effect.

Once this was complete i placed the clip at the start of my timeline.
The next shot was to have a white background fade in, then blue would fade in and out on the white background. I chose to do my text in after effects as it is easy to change the opacity with different elements all at once with the timeline and the keyframes.
For my Viral advert i had a script planned out which also appeared in my film but i decided to re record the audio so it sounded crisp and clear for my viral advert because I didn't want any background noise in it.
The next time I applied motion graphics to a clip was the shot of Alex played by Shaun, walking out of his living room where he sleeps. The original shot was having it all in focus and Shaun just walk past the camera and through the door, but I decided I wanted to have the first part of the shot out of focus so it would give the effect of confusion, I want this to be the impression so the viewer is guessing at what is going on.
I did this by adding a camera to the clips composition I chose the option to have depth of field added which gives it the out of focus effect, I then went to the start of my composition and pressed the key frame button and made sure that then depth of field value was just right so it looked out of focus and then went to the part of the shot were Shaun had just come into shot and changed the value so it was clear. Then when playing it back it came out with how it would have looked as if it had been done on a camera.
