After Effects Shape Layers

In this lesson we learned about shape layers and how they can be used to create dynamic and interesting backgrounds for videos, in this lesson we created one for a fake show called DJ Quad Master. There is an advantage of using shape layers instead of solid layers, it is that you can use the fill option to create a linear or radial gradient. After effects has 5 shape tools to use: Rectangle, Rounded rectangle, ellipse, polygon and a star. When you draw a shape on you composition, after effects adds the shape as a separate layer. You can change the fill colour thats if you want one and the stroke if you want one, also modify its path and apply animation presets.

To complete the task I first i selected the rectangle tool and drew a rectangle filling the whole screen.
after this i clicked fill on the gradient editor, choosing white and blue to get the background a white centre into blue background. Then create the polygon with a roundness of -500% and the outer radius to 150 creating a dynamic shape. i made more than one of these to add to the background and did the same with the other shapes.
